On 30 September 2025, the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) proudly presented our project at the IV Kontuz, Identity Under Construction Conference, an event organised by Konexio-ona. Their invitation gave us the perfect opportunity to share our vision and strengthen ties for future collaborations.
Konexio-ona is an association dedicated to creating school-adapted courses that promote critical thinking and digital literacy—values that resonate deeply with our mission. Together, we focused on raising awareness about the crucial role of media literacy in shaping critical thinking among children and within education as a whole.
Our team delivered a 30-minute presentation, followed by dynamic discussion sessions. These conversations connected the QYourself method to the growing need for media education alongside digital education—especially in a world where adolescents navigate social media and an overwhelming flow of digital information.
A Meeting Point for Education and Innovation
The conference was held at Palacio Europa, Vitoria-Gasteiz’s premier conference centre, and attracted 364 registered participants via an online form. The audience included a diverse group of professionals: educators, psychologists, school counsellors, social integration students, nurses, mental health therapists, staff from the Basque Government’s Department of Education, and even a juvenile court judge. Invitations were sent to all educational entities in Vitoria-Gasteiz, reaching teachers, family associations, and provincial education networks.
Institutional support was key: the Vitoria City Council, the Provincial Council of Álava (through the Provincial Youth Institute), and the Vital Foundation—known for its work with senior education—played an essential role in making this event possible.
Impact Beyond the Conference
The day was a success, not only in attendance but also in media coverage. Basque public television (ETB) featured a live interview about the QYourself project and its relevance to the conference theme. And the impact doesn’t stop there: the full event will soon be available online via Konexio-ona’s website, ensuring long-term visibility.
Looking ahead, exciting collaborations are already in motion. In early 2026, we will co-develop a media education course for teenagers with Konexio-ona, and we aim to involve UNHCR to expand the initiative beyond Álava.
This conference was more than an event—it was a catalyst for future projects that will empower both young people and adults to navigate the digital world critically and responsibly.
